Sing about your body!

Tonight, I suddenly found myself interested in the context of the Song of Songs book in the bible.

If you ever want a kick - google it.

I had to copy and paste this commentary because it made me laugh so much.

I don't think I have the right to ever feel insecure again about my body!

This is what I found on preacher Gary's blog - whoever that is! Theologically correct or not is irrelevant - it's great!!

This is why He says:

In Chapter 2 and indeed throughout the Song of Solomon there is a clear picture of the principle of attraction.  God made you to be attracted to another, and attraction is not sin.  There are times when acting on attraction can lead into sin, but God has created people to be attracted to one another, physically as well as in other ways.

And get this – no matter who you are, no matter what stage of life you are in, no matter what your body shape is at the moment or permanently, you are attractive, just as you are.

Our culture is geared to tell you that you need to be something different, believe something different, do something different in order to be attractive, that you in your present state are not good enough.   But I say to you on the basis of the Song of Solomon that that is a lie.  No matter who you are, no matter what your type, God made you and right now you are attractive or can be to someone.

You don’t believe me?  Let’s take a look at the description of the two people who obviously are attracted to and love one another in the Song of Solomon.  If you have your Bible with you, turn to Song of Songs Chapter 7 starting with verse 1 and let’s see how the man describes the woman he’s passionately attracted to….and I’m using the King James Version because it’s a more literal translation from the Hebrew…..

“1 How beautiful are your feet in sandals,
O prince’s daughter!”

He thinks she has pretty feet.

Continuing in verse 1
“The curves of your thighs are like jewels,
The work of the hands of a skillful workman.”

So she has beautiful feet and curvy thighs.Doesn’t say how curvy, just curvy.  She’s not a stick figure model, alright?!

Verse 2

2 “Your navel is a rounded goblet;
It lacks no blended beverage.”

One paraphrase would be your navel is a deep goblet, so deep that it would never run out of wine.

So, she’s a woman with beautiful feet, curvy thighs and an enormous belly button.

(Don’t get mad at me, I’m just pointing out what the Bible says!!)

Verse 2
“Your waist is a heap of wheat
Set about with lilies.”

Excuse me – is a HEAP of wheat flat?  Is it?  IS IT?

She has beautiful feet, curvy thighs, enormous navel and a rounded belly.

Ready to go on?  Verse 3….
3 Your two breasts are like two fawns,
Twins of a gazelle.

She has beautiful feet, curvy thighs, an enormous navel, a rounded belly and
a small chest.

Verse 4….

4 Your neck is like an ivory tower, ….

We’re talking about a woman who has beautiful feet, curvy thighs, an enormous navel, a rounded belly, with a small chest and a very long neck.
Your eyes like the pools in Heshbon
By the gate of Bath Rabbim.

I have no idea what those pools were like so we’re going to leave that alone.

Verse 4 continues….
Your nose is like the tower of Lebanon
Which looks toward Damascus.

Let me make sure you get this straight.  This is the woman that he’s attracted to….

She has beautiful sandaled feet, curvy thighs, a huge navel and a rounded belly, small -chested, long necked and nose as big as a tower….and purple hair according to verse 5!So I guess that means if some woman wants to color her hair bright purple today, or orange or bright red, or whatever, it’s not the first time in history!

And then he say is verse 6,

6 How fair and how pleasant you are….

If that doesn’t say beauty is in the eye of the beholder I don’t know what does!

You were made to be attracted to someone.  Attraction is not sin in itself.  And you are right now attractive to someone in this world.  Let me say this especially to the women in our sexist culture out to make you feel bad about yourself.  Don’t let them!

Hehe!! So with that said.. May we all sleep well on our wheat bellies tonight!

Au revoir!!
